The Conductors
Over its hundred years, eleven conductors have been employed by the choir.
Harry Shepley, conductor 1899-1944.
Norman Harrison, conductor 1942-55. A thoroughly nice chap, he was made president of the society in 1970 and continued as a singer in the choir until his death in 1983.
Granville Whitehead, conductor 1955-1968.
K .P. Rodwell, conductor 1969-1975. Music master at Brooksbank School.
Keith Horsfall, conductor 1975-1983. A young, successful and energetic cello-player.
Keith Rhodes, conductor 1983-88.
Lawrence Killian, conductor 1988.
Graham Coatman, conductor 1989-92.
Mirian Walton, conductor 1992-1996.
Margaret Edwards, conductor 1996-98.
Michael Murphy, conductor 1998-2003. Former musical director at St Anne's Cathedral, Leeds.
